Plasma spray coating
Method for the coating of surfaces with metals and ceramics. Herein, thepowdered coating material is introduced into a gas stream of a highenergetic plasma (about 12000 K). The coating material melts and ispropelled onto the substrate’s surface where it solidifies immediately.Particularly useful in the manufacture of hard protecting coatings withwell-defined coating thickness. The process can be applied under ambientpressure (air plasma spraying – APS) or in vacuum under an inert gas(vacuum plasma spraying – VPS).
