	Activation Increase of a surface’s activity byremoval or chemical reaction of inactive material on the surface.Examples are the removal of metal surface oxides or the generation ofpolar groups on polyolefins. In many cases, an activation is a necessityfor a following coating process to provide a sufficient wetting andadhesion of the coating. Plasma activation constitutes the mostversatile activation method. Other methods are e. g. flame treatment, coronaor chemically activating baths.
